Binance hosted its first-ever Blockchain Week in Singapore. Binance Blockchain Week focused primarily on the sustainable growth of the blockchain ecosystem on 19–22 January 2019. It consisted of two events over four days. The first two days were a two-day hackathon namely Binance SAFU Hackathon on 19–20 January 2019, followed by Binance Conference on 21–22 January 2019.
Binance SAFU Hackathon (19–20 January 2019)
Binance SAFU Hackathon was a two-day hackathon held during Binance Blockchain Week Singapore. This 32-hour round-the-clock hackathon primary objective was to empower blockchain engineers to rapidly prototype blockchain solutions to potentially solve problems identified by key stakeholders of this program. Binance SAFU Hackathon aimed to challenge the hacking theme of aSAFU Digital Asset World, where a great focus was placed on eliminating scams, hacks and money laundering activities that are plaguing the blockchain industry globally.
During the hackathon, more than100 developers from 30 over countries took on the challenge of coming up with solutions that protect cryptocurrency users against scams, hacks and money laundering schemes.
The hackathon was won by Merkle Blox team, composed of Mriganka Pattnaik, Nirmal AK, and Aleksey Studnev. They presented a pitch for a smart-contract-based insurance system for users who experienced attacks. The team won up to US$50,000 worth of Binance Coins, while the second- and third-place teams (Crypto Lynx and Perlin) respectively won US$25,000 and $15,000 worth of Binance Coins.
Binance Conference (21–22 January 2019)
Binance Conference was a 2-day conference where the most dedicated, extraordinary and creative minds in the blockchain space gathered to discuss the most current trends and the hottest topics in the industry. The conference also hoped to seek an innovative solution to explore further development of blockchain ecosystem. It hosted over 50 influential speakers and industry leaders.
Some of the hottest topics being discussed were:
- Reviewing the cryptocurrencies performance and scalability of blockchain in 2018
- How to establish a balanced regulatory frameworks
- Is Security Token Offering a fad or a tool to restore trust in cryptocurrency?
- Exploring new opportunity in DAPP ecosystem on the blockchain
- The rise of cryptocurrency derivatives
- Is stable coins an ultimate crypto-hedging solution?
- What lessons can be learnt from the current state of enterprise blockchain adoption
Last but not least, the most concerning topic: 2019 Outlook and emerging cryptocurrency markets to watch in 2019.
